This is the story of a Corporate Event planner that knows me personally, and called me to bring their CEO's vision to life of having a private stand-up show for 2,000 of their employees at the Microsoft Theater in Downtown LA! Oh by the way, this show featured Nate Bargatze, Taylor Tomlinson and Francisco Ramos. To that point in my career, the most people I'd ever told jokes for was about 500, and this show was going to be FOUR TIMES that amount. Thankfully, I asked to take a photo with Nate & Taylor JUST before I crapped my pants. . . solid timing. Listen, I was nervous. We were being paid a good amount of money, my Mother was in the crowd, and the pressure to succeed and fear of failure felt IMMENSE. Backstage prior the show was the first time I met Nate, and he was so calm and collected I wondered if he even had a pulse. He stood there relaxed as I paced the area, walking back and forth from MY OWN GREEN ROOM, to the stage, and frantically clearing my throat and spitting in trash cans and also not trash cans.. As showtime approached, I studied my set list, went over my material, gave my Mom a hug, and trusted that I was funny enough to be there too. My set was funny, not spectacular, but I got my laughs and hosted the rest of the night. My big moment in Corporate Comedy went great. It was special for obvious reasons, but mostly because my Mom got to see my very first private reserved green room, a family friend also got to see the show, and two of my co-producers were also in attendance. We all began our comedy careers in the same city, and they were partly responsible for my growth. This was one of the most memorable Corporate Comedy nights of my life.
